Is your Sump Pump Ready?

4/11/2022 (Permalink)

Is your sump pump ready for spring rains? Sump pumps have a pretty tough job and it is important to make sure they are well maintained and functioning properly when they are called upon!

Here are some great tips on keeping your sump pump ready to perform!

Quarterly

Unplug the pump and empty the basin of any standing water.

Remove any debris from the basin and make sure the sump pump inlet screen is clear of obstructions.

Plug the pump in and pour 5 gallons of water into the pump to verify that the float switch turns the pump on and off properly.

Annually

Unplug the pump and remove from basin for evaluation.  Check for rust or corrosion.

Check the owners manual to see if the bearings need lubrication.

Check the basin for debris and remove as needed.

Reinstall pump and plug back in.

Pour five gallons of water in the basin and observe float action. Verify it moves through the entire range of travel.

Verify the pump discharge pipe outside is not blocked.
